My teaching method
Effective teaching for effective learning
I am qualified to teach English as a foreign language, with TOEFL certification, to speakers of Portuguese and Spanish. My teaching method is based on modern pedagogical practices for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). My lessons are student-centered: each lesson is adapted to individual needs, and participation is strongly encouraged.
The student at the center
My teaching approach is interactive and communicative, with plenty of opportunities to practice English based on each student's educational and professional interests.
- Lessons are adapted to individual needs — there is no fixed textbook.
- Participation in every session is highly encouraged: you speak, I correct on the spot.
- I prepare students for academic and professional goals, such as university exams and job interviews.
- One-to-one sessions draw on a variety of tools, such as readings and audiovisual materials.
- The environment is friendly and welcoming — making mistakes out loud is part of the process.
Step by step
How a course unfolds
These four stages happen in order, and each one builds on the previous one.
-
01
Initial conversation
We start by understanding your real goal, your timeline and where your English stands today, in both speaking and writing.
-
02
Individual plan
We build a plan around your educational and professional interests, with topics, reading and writing exercises and audiovisual materials that make sense for the path you want to follow.
-
03
Interactive sessions
Lessons are one-to-one and communicative. You practice by speaking, with immediate correction and an explanation of why — especially for the mistakes your native language tends to cause. Reading comprehension is an equally important tool for learning a new language.
-
04
Continuous adjustment
As you progress, the level of the materials rises and the focus shifts. The plan follows your progress instead of tying you to a fixed schedule.
These lessons are for you if:
- You are 18 or older.
- Your native language is Portuguese or Spanish.
- You have a concrete goal: an exam, an interview, a trip or a position.
- You prefer one-to-one attention to a group class.
- You want to understand why you make mistakes, not just memorize the right answer.
They may not be for you if:
- You are looking for lessons for children or teenagers.
- You want a large group at a large-group price.
- You expect guaranteed fluency by a fixed date — no one can honestly deliver that.
